Canadian International Development Agency support CNVLD Womens Wheelchair Basketball Program.

The CNVLD is delighted to announce that the Canadian International Development Agency (The Canada Fund) will provide support to the recently established new sports development program of the CNVLD: the CNVLD Women’s. Wheelchair Basketball Program.

The Canada Fund support will be used to purchase all equipment required for the sport of wheelchair basketball, uniforms plus a much needed overhaul of the CNVLD’s computer systems. The CNVLD is very pleased to be working with the Canada Fund who have been partners in cooperation to many of the CNVLD’s programs – Thank you Canada!

The CNVLD wheelchair basketball program will commence with a pilot project based in Battambang and will involve 16 Cambodian women with a disability who will develop the foundations of a National Women’s Wheelchair basketball program (with additional clubs to be established in Kampong Chham province in 2012 as part of the CNVLD focus on developing programs in rural Cambodia) leading to the selection of a National team that will participate in regional and international events showcasing the ability of Cambodian women with a disability. Selection of the 16 Battambang female athletes, all of whom will be under the age of 25, is currently underway and will be completed by the end of December, 2011.

All aspects of the program will be managed by Cambodian women with a disability in line with the CNVLD local training and localization policies.

The CNVLD Women’s Wheelchair basketball Program is supported by Disability Sports and Recreation (DSR) – The Australia and the Canada Fund with cooperation from International Red Cross (ICRC) and the Cambodian Ministry of Social Affairs Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation.
