CNVLD Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Program Update: Dec, 2011
The first Field Trip to Battambang has been completed with consolidation of working partnership with ICRC and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MOSVY).
On Tuesday 6th of December, the newly appointed CNVLD Women’s Wheelchair Program Manager, Ms Tata, traveled to Battambang with Mr. Yann Drouet, the ICRC Country Rehabilitation Director, to commence planning for the 2012 CNVLD Women’s Wheelchair Program with the pilot program to be established at the ICRC / MOSVY Center for Physical Rehabilitation in Battambang.
The CNVLD is very proud of its excellent and highly productive cooperation of many years with ICRC and MOSVY.Tata met with the Battambang Center director Mr. Chhan Layheng and many issues related to the project planning are now in place

The Battambang Center management will be assisting Tata in the selection of the first 16 women to participate in the pilot project including the involvement of the Center Social Worker who will assist with the applications evaluation.
As always, the CNVLD stressed to the candidates that we will only work with athletes who place sport as the first objective and money as the second objective – this way we ensure that only committed athletes are involved in the program.

The Center has kindly agreed to provide the following support:
(a) To provide a safe and secure location for the storage of the Basketball wheelchairs
(b) To alter the newly laid sports court in order to cater for the sport of wheelchair basketball
(c) To maintain and repair the wheelchairs as required
(d) To provide overnight accommodation at the Center to athletes who live far from Battambang City so that women with a disability from isolated areas have the opportunity to participate in a disciplined sports training program
Tata also met a few of the potential athletes and explained the upcoming program and she will return to Battambang next week to commence the final selection of the 16 athletes who will participate in the 2012 program.
The CNVLD gratefully acknowledges the support of ICRC /MOSVY Battambang Rehabilitation Center.
The CNVLD Cambodian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball program gratefully acknowledges the support of and assistance of Disability Sports and Recreation (Victoria, Australia), The CANADA Fund, International Red Cross and the Cambodian Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation
