Cambodian Women on the Move: Wheelchair Basket ball athletes selected for CNVLD pilot program
CNVLD Sport Program Manger Tata traveled to Battambang on the 11th of December to select 16 athletes for participation in the upcoming CNVLD 2012 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Program.
25 women from Battambang province attended the selection trials held at the ICRC / MOSVY Center in Battambang. All attendees were required to fill out a detailed application form and participated in an interview with Tata, CNVLD staff and MOSVY Center Staff. Athletes were selected on the basis of their physical fitness, interest in sport and attitude.

Those athletes that were not selected have been encouraged to continue practicing sport as additional basketball clubs will be established if funding can be raised. All attendees received a subsidy of 20,000 Riel to assist with their transport and food costs.

Tata and CNVLD staff will now proceed to purchase uniforms and shoes for the selected athletes in anticipation of the programs start in July, 2012 when a professional DSR wheelchair basketball Coach from Australia will travel to Battambang for a one month live in training camp with the 16 athletes selected at today’s trials.

The 16 athletes selected are: Mut Kompheak / Ngyen Sophorn / Cheur Sotheara / Dos Sopheap / Tour ChandaEng Sreymom / Sieng Sochan / Chen Chan / Pich Soey / Yi Dayoung / Sot Nimol / Brak Sinoun / Chan RyVan Sreymom / Pren Eat / Ouk Serk.
