Cellcard National Volleyball League

The Cellcard National Volleyball League is the longest running and only Standing Volleyball League in the world today. In 2006, the CNVLD was the recipient of a United Nations Award for Best Practices Sport and Development – the only Cambodian organisation to receive such an accolade - in recognition of this success.

The CNVLD strongly advocates the utilisation of team sports activities as the most effective means of providing physical rehabilitation, leadership / teamwork skills and socio-economic opportunity and responsibility for persons with a disability, especially amputee survivors of the landmine.

From humble beginnings in 2001 on a concrete court at the Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to an elite level ten-team league at the Olympic Stadium Phnom Penh broadcast live-to-air on CTN in 2009, the Cellcard National Volleyball League has firmly established itself as the most professional sports league in Cambodia. With annual prize money in 2009 totalling USD6000, national league athletes also enjoy the most comprehensive support of any sportspersons in Cambodia.

As the 10th Anniversary of the National League approaches the athletes with a disability of Cambodia now enjoy mainstream acceptance as the nation’s true sporting heroes.

Since 2001 the CNVLD has pioneered the engagement of Corporate Sector Social Responsibility in Cambodian disability sports and the 2009 Cellcard National Volleyball League marked the first year of sustainability entirely through corporate sponsorship, thanks to the vision of Cambodia's leading businesses such as Cellcard and ANZ Royal Bank.

The CNVLD wishes to thank Cellcard and all the team sponsors for making the 2009 Cellcard National Volleyball League the premier sports event in Cambodia.
