The All-New Cambodian National Standing Volleyball Team: A Call to the Nation

CNVLD Secretary General Chris Minko publicly expressed his strong disappointment with the performance of the Cambodian National Standing Volleyball Team in the last two matches of the Cambodia Cellcard 2009 WOVD Volleyball World Cup yesterday and announced a radical shake-up in line with Prime Minister Samdech Akeamohasenapadei Decho Hun Sen’s call for a Gold Medal.

Secretary General Minko stated that it was time for a hardline attitude toward a team which, despite having competed in more than five World Cups since 2001, had failed to reach its ultimate objective of World No.1.

The first step on the path to reasserting Cambodia’s challenge to European powerhouses Germany and Slovakia was made by Mr Minko today in “A Call to the Athletes with a Disability of the Kingdom of Cambodia.” “The CNVLD calls on all Athletes with a Disability of Cambodia to follow Prime Minister Samdech Akeamohasenapadei Decho Hun Sen’s desire to be World No.1. Any athletes who want to assist their nation in this quest should contact the CNVLD immediately for trials to join new National League teams which will form the basis for an all-new Cambodian National Standing Volleyball Team.”

“Successful applicants will undergo a strict training programme under National Coach Christian Zepp prior to the CNVLD 2010 International Competition programme which is already confirmed to include:

  1. 2010 Cambodian National Standing Volleyball Team Goodwill Tour of Iran
  2. 2010 WOVD India Standing Volleyball World Cup
  3. 2010 ASEAN Cambodia Standing Volleyball Championship”

Applications from Athletes with a Disability to join the Cambodian National Team are now being taken at the CNVLD Office in Phnom Penh
