German National Volleyball Team of Disabled
Team Spirit
One for all and all for one! Volleyball is a team sport - all players, whether disabled or non-disabled fight for the ball. Team spirit and athletic excellence are characteristics of the German standing volleyball players. A healthy mix of young and old players, ambition, motivation and enjoying the game are attributes of this team.
The German National Volleyball team of the Disabled currently consists of approximately twelve players and a three-man supporting team.
Since 1983, the squad has been led by National Coach Athanasios Papageorgiou (“Papa“).

The German National Volleyball team of the Disabled is the most successful German sports team over the last twenty years. The team has won the Paralympics four times,
They are three times World Champions, a one time World Cup winner and have been European Champions five times. Thus, it is also the most successful team in the world since the existence of professional volleyball of the disabled.
Passion plays an important role for this volleyball team - also internationally. At the last Paralympics in 2002, the team from
Nowadays
Hard work and dedication - the players love to make sacrifices to maintain the past and current achievements of the German standing volleyball players. Each international player practices with a non-disabled volleyball team and is part of the national association of the German Volleyball Federation (DVV). The players therefore already take responsibility and this service supports the home team. Prepared like this, they play in international tournaments like the World Cup or World Championship at least once a year.
