Malaysian National Volleyball Team

The Malaysian National Standing Volleyball Team is participating in its first ever Standing Volleyball World Cup at the Cambodia Cellcard WOVD 2009 Volleyball World Cup.

Malaysia in the event, thanks to the initiative of WOVD Technical Delegate Billy Lee, signals a resurgence of popularity in Standing Volleyball in the ASEAN region where volleyball remains one of the most popular sports.

Malaysian Team Manager Irene Chang stressed that winning was not the team’s main goal but they were nonetheless determined to provide more Malaysians with a disability the opportunity to experience the sport and to support efforts led by Cambodia to see it promoted in the ASEAN region and worldwide.

The CNVLD celebrates the participation of the Malaysian National Standing Volleyball Team in the Cambodia Cellcard 2009 WOVD Volleyball World Cup, thanks Mr Billy Lee for Standing Up and looks forward to welcoming the whole team to Phnom Penh.

CAMBODIA HERE WE COME!

"This is indeed the first time Malaysia is taking part in this eventful Standing Volleyball. We certainly do not expect much at this stage as all our players have never played standing volleyball before. Furthermore it is difficult for us to gather enough players as they come from different parts of the country. Difficult as it may seem, we have finally succeeded in forming this team and we brace ourselves to the challenges ahead.

Our participation in this competition is also partly to support our wonderful and committed neighbouring ASEAN partner in volleyball for disabled. Without their commitment and belief in this sport, many would have certainly been deprived the opportunity to display their skills and ability in the game. Above all the solidarity spirit of ASEAN should be upheld. It is only through friendship, support and participation that we are able to keep this game going."
